ETS/NW Now Nationally Recognized
Escorted Transportation Service Northwest (ETS/NW) has been awarded the 2012 STAR Merit Award from The Beverly Foundation. The prestigious, nationally-recognized award is given annually to not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organizations that demonstrate leadership and success with their senior citizen transportation programs. ETS/NW is one of five organizations chosen nationwide, and the only one in the Midwest.
To be recognized nationally in this way is a tremendous honor for ETS/NW, as well as for the Village of Arlington Heights. Arlene Mulder, Mayor of Arlington Heights, offered her thoughts about the recognition: "It’s terrific; we all thought ETS/NW was innovative and wonderful." ETS/NW received recognition at the Village’s May board meeting.
Escorted Transportation Service Northwest (ETS/NW) was founded in 2006 to provide rides for senior citizens to/from their life-sustaining medical and dental appointments. Carefully screened ETS/NW volunteers pick the senior up at home, personally escort them to their appointment, wait with them, then return them home again — a service unique to the community.
ETS/NW has successfully provided over 12,600 round-trip rides to seniors in the community since 2006. The organization covers a 160 sq. mile area, including five major medical centers and all roads in-between: Northwest Community, Lutheran General, Glenbrook, St. Alexius and Alexian Brothers. Passengers need to be at least 60, and their medical appointments must also be located within the same boundaries; a $12 donation is requested for each round-trip ride.
As part of the Award, ETS/NW will receive $5,000 to support its mission. The Beverly Foundation, located in Albuquerque, NM, is a highly-respected organization that undertakes research, materials development and assistance to encourage and facilitate mobility and transportation programs for older adults. Their STAR Awards program began in 2000.
